Madison County R/C Flyers Inc., Madison County, Indiana

The Madison County R/C Flyers club was started in 1967. According to the club’s website (https://madisoncorc.com/), where this information was gathered, the first meeting was held in modeler’s kitchen, where three officers were elected. There were 15 charter members. They started Fun-Flies in 1968, and in 1969, the Fun-Fly was made an annual event in May. In that year, they also switched flying fields.

Over the following few years, more additions were made to the field, including a shelter, picnic table, shed for mowers, a paved landing strip, and new signage. The Fun-Fly in May brought in profits, as well as an added annual Labor Day pattern event. In 1973, Pit-Talk, the club’s newsletter, was born. By the mid-1970s, the two events held changed to a Spring Fun-Fly and Fall Fun-Fly. Both brought in profits. Also, a model display at the local Mounds Mall added to profits. The 1980s brought about a well, an outhouse, and electricity for the field’s club building.

Currently, the organization has 54 members. Their motto is “maximum enjoyment of the hobby.” They demonstrate this through a long list of yearly activities, including a mid-summer Fun-Fly, cookouts, swap meets, and Giant Scale Fly-Ins. Their meetings are held at the Anderson Municipal Airport in Anderson, Indiana.
