Charles “Chuck” Foreman Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina

Chuck Foreman began his modeling career in 1947 at the age of 10, building classroom-training models for the Army Air Force. In 1953 in Schweinfurt, Germany, he started an all-AMAmember aeromodeling club called Satan’s Air Devils. In 1972, Chuck was awarded Leader Member status in AMA in an administrative category. He obtained his Contest Director (CD) license two years later and began running Pattern meets in Richmond and Norfolk, Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland. A competitor as well, he flew in many Pattern contests throughout the area in the 1970s and 1980s.

He organized the Virginia League of Model Clubs in 1977 and was the CD for the first TransAm cross-country race in 1979. Chuck served as communications director for the Nats from 1980 to 1993, overseeing all public address and radio systems management. He was later appointed to the Nats Communications Committee.

John Spaulding, AMA District IV vice president, appointed Chuck as an associate vice president for District IV in 1976 and he has held the post intermittently for more than 16 years. Chuck served on the AMA Executive Council for a total of 12 years. He filled the position of District IV vice president from 1979 to 1983, and then from 1996 to 2002. He continues to serve District IV as an associate vice president.

Chunk was the first chairman of the Building Committee that convinced AMA to build its previous headquarters in Reston, Virginia. The Reston facility housed the staff in the 1980s and early 1990s. He was instrumental in the completion of the new AMA administration building in Muncie, Indiana, serving on and chairing the second Headquarters Building Committee. He was a member of the Property Acquisition and Development Committee (PADCOM) for nearly a decade. While a member of the Executive Council, he served as chairman of the Bylaws Committee and the Leader Member Committee.

An ardent supporter of AMA and promoting model aviation to youth, Chuck organized the first Camp Jeep Flight School in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2000. This event focused on youth and aviation and was a huge public relations success for model aviation. It brought together a number of clubs and individuals to run the show, and was sponsored by the Jeep Division at DaimlerChrysler U.S. Headquarters. The following year Chuck directed the event. Other recognitions Chuck has received include the Distinguished Service award and AMA Fellow award.
