Christopher W. Wilken

Christopher W. Wilken, a freshman from Fairmont, Minnesota, received $2,000 to help with his expenses while attending the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis. He is pursuing a degree in aeronautical engineering and hopes to obtain a research position upon graduation. Christopher has been involved in aeromodeling for 10 years, flying Radio Control and Free Flight. He is a founding member of the Elk Creek Fliers and has served the club as secretary, treasure, newsletter editor, and flight instructor. He has participated in numerous fun flys, mall shows, and public demonstrations.

Christopher graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in Fairmont, Minnesota with a 3.858 GPA. He was a member of the Knowledge Bowl Team and the Academic Excellence Society. He was also honored by the 3M Corporation with the Richard G. Drew Creativity Award for excellence in science.

Active in full-scale aviation, he soloed at 16 and received his private license at 17. He is a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Other hobbies include competitive rifle shooting, computers, and amateur radio.
