Written by AMA Staff (05/1955); Transcribed by JS (04/2010)

D.T. Donahue, Vice President of District X, directed the Wakefield Semi-Finals in 1952 and assisted in the Western Open in 1946 and 1947. He lives at 1950 Oakmont Drive, Glendale, California. Don’s chief interests are indoor and outdoor rubber, Free Flight gas and Free Flight scale… a member of AMA since 1946, his first model was a baby R.O.G. Don is married, has one child and, by profession, is an Aircraft Design Engineer. Also, Don is vice president of the Los Angeles Thermal Thumbers.

Don feels that model aviation is a fine hobby for young people, which also encourages interest in full-scale aircraft in later years. He also feels that “obsolete” events should be cut out of large contests, leaving 10 or so basic ones with good prizes. He doesn’t suggest completely eliminating the “obsolete” events but, rather, lump them together and have one trophy for all age groups.
