Donald Sjolin

Donald Sjolin, of St. Charles, Illinois, has been awarded $625 and will attend Purdue University where he will study aeronautical engineering. He attended St. Charles High School where he earned a GPA of 4.65 out of a possible 5.0.

Donald has a sustaining interest in aviation, and while in high school, took part in an independent study program researching unorthodox aircraft configurations. He was in a Junior Achievement program, serving his company as Vice President of Finance, while gaining the top salesman award in the group.

He has been a model flier for nine years. He decided to attempt Radio Control Pattern flying three years ago and is now an accomplished FAI Masters Class pilot. His club is very active and holds several contests annually. David edited the club newsletter for four years. His stable of aircraft consists of a dozen or more, ranging from flying wings to Pattern types. Aviation, both full scale and model, is a vital part of his life and he expects it will stay that way.
