I’m 69 years old and have been modeling off and on for 60 of those years. I started with a 10cent Comet kit of an ME-10 (sorta flew) and progressed through Rubber Free Flight, Powered Free Flight, U-Control, and suffered through the early days of Radio Control semi-controlled flight. I became a Leader Member in 1962 with the Lincoln SkyKnights in Nebraska, and am still at it – just slowing down a bit.

Some of the high points of modeling for me was competing for a place on the military team for the 1962 Nats. You had to be a versatile modeler then. I flew hand-launched glider, ½A Speed, Proto Speed, ½A and A Free Flight and Radio Control. I didn’t make the team but did place third in B Speed. I did compete in the Nats at Los Alamitos, California in the early 1960s (don’t remember the year) and really had a good time. That and a million memories make it worth the time and effort involved.

I now fly with the Heartland Radio Control Club in Wauchula, Florida where I have been their secretary for the past five years. I live in Avon Park, Florida.
