Joel Grasmeyer

Joel Grasmeyer is a freshman at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, studying Aerospace Engineering. The Grand Rapids, Michigan, native received $6,000 from the scholarship fund.

Joel is a world-class Free Flight modeler. He was a member of the United States Junior Free Flight Team that competed in the World Championships in Yugoslavia. He also enjoys Radio Control Sailplane, Control Line Stunt and Control Line Combat flying. As a member of the Grand Valley (Michigan) Radio Control Club and Western Michigan Free Flight Club, he has taken part in many school demonstrations and assisted students who developed an interest in modeling.

An outstanding student at Calvin Christian High School in Grandville, Michigan, Joel was listed in Who’s Who in American High School Students. He was also a member of the National Honor Society for four years, the track team, the debate team, and the ski club. Other activities included the Civil Air Patrol, the Grand Rapids Astronomical Association, and the Grand Rapids Audubon Society.
