Rand Sheldon, of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, is at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, where he is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology. He has his hands full with a 17-credit-hour load. He attended Jefferson Senior High School in Edgewater, where he ranked 21st in a class of 190.
Rand loves model aviation. As a member of the Rocky Mountain Soaring Association, from his first Glider (an Olympic II,) he became a Soaring enthusiast. He has flown in many contests, including the 1981, 1982, 1984, and 1985 Nats. At local and regional contests, he could always be counted on to help with setting up equipment, chasing chutes, and helping with scoring chores.
He also enjoys working on cars and lawn mowers and is an accomplished mechanic. His love of horses manifests itself in his membership in the Westernaires horse-mounted drill team. Active in his church, hardworking in the summers on survey crews, he has also worked in restaurants to raise money for his college education expenses.
His sports activities include swimming, canoeing, and rafting, but his enthusiasm for model aviation, shared with his father, has been a great source of pleasure and satisfaction for him.
