In Memoriam
It is with deep regret that we report the passing on August 26 of Rudy Kluiber, AMA Vicepresident and Contest Board member, District III, for the past three years. To Headquarters, Rudy seemed always constructive, always solid and, in a quiet way, a “doer.” Rudy resided in Lakewood, Ohio, where he was a general agent for the Detroit, Toledo, and Ironton Railroad. He was a charter member and a founder of the Lakewood Flite-Masters, holding office variously as Chairman of the Board, President, Secretary and Treasurer. Serving on numerous committees each year, he was one of the guiding lights of the club. With his son Butch, a well-known free-flighter, he always was seen at contests. He was Butch’s mechanic and retriever. Once he tried his hand briefly at free flight but soon returned to his devoted job as retriever and mechanic.
Shortly before the Nationals, he was hospitalized with chest pains. The day after he was discharged, Rudy left for the Nats in order to attend the Executive meetings and to assist with retrieving.
On vacation at Heywood, Wis., he was stricken with a fatal heart attack. It seems totally inadequate to just say that many people will miss Rudy Kluiber who was an example to us all.
