Stan Hill, District X, member of the Contest Board, resides at 1020 State Street, Santa Barbara, California, is an Optometrist, married, and is the proud father of two children. Stan started building model airplanes in 1933 and became a member of the AMA in 1941. At the present time, he is secretary of the Santa Barbara Modelers.
In addition to serving as club president, he has directed annual club contests since 1947, which have attracted as many as 100 contestants. His chief interests are Free Flight gas and towline glider, and the first model airplane he built was a solid scale Gee Bee racer. Stan was a member of the 1953 United States FAI Power team and placed sixth in the competition at Cranfield, England.
Stan suggests that there is a real opportunity for furtherance of international understanding through participation in FAI eliminations and the flying of international class models. The modelers in the Santa Barbara area have found this to be true, says Stan. He has also suggested that active sponsorship of model clubs be encouraged by Exchange Clubs on a local level.
