Tien-Seng Chiu, of Columbia, Maryland, is attending the University of Maryland, College Park. He received a $1,000 Scholarship and will work towards a degree in aerospace engineering. Graduating from Wilde Lake High School with a GPA of 3.333, he devoted much of his time towards developing a pioneer project for an experimental aircraft called the Pegasus. This is a canard design. A large model is planned that will prove the theory behind this cargo-type aircraft, with much of the design being assisted by current computer techniques. Special features of the model will be an engine synchronization system, a signal booster/splitter system, plus onboard ignition systems and battery backup. Additional experimental systems will include rocketassisted take-off, a parachute recovery system, and an on-board computer control system. Tien-Seng loves computers, mathematics, and model aviation, but not necessarily in that order. He was the only five-year Latin student at the school. He also found time to become a Start Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. His true love is aerospace, and we wish him well in his chosen field.
