Walter M. Eggert, (Abington, Pennsylvania) has received the sum of $1,250 to help him with his expenses at Penn State University. He attended Abington Senior High School in Abington, Pennsylvania. During his years there, he accumulated an enviable scholastic record that enabled him to be selected for the University Scholars Program at Penn State. Last year, 52,000 students sought entry into this program, and only 1,200 were admitted. Walter says that his great interests are mechanical engineering and engineering physics. He also enjoys aeronautical engineering. His present goal is computer engineering. Eventually he plans to work for a doctorate in his chosen profession.
As an aeromodeler, he has had many successes. He is an active member of the SAM 76 Chapter, the Warminster Air Scouts Radio Control Club, and the Delaware Valley Federation of Clubs. He has built many Indoor and Outdoor Free Flight aircraft, likes Scale models, and also enjoys Old-Timer Radio Control. He passes along his knowledge by helping other people learn how to build and fly.
A competitor, he has won many Nats events, as well as local and regional contests. In his category he was National Junior Champion in 1980 (three events), 1983 (two events), and 1985 (four events.) His specialties have been Indoor and Outdoor Scale. His interest in model aviation started when he was six. His father, a many-time national champion, worked with him. Walter likes sports. He plays golf for recreation, bowled in both a league and for the school team, and qualified for the school tennis team. He also enjoys the outdoor life and has been on many camping trips with his parents and sister.

Walter M. Eggert, of Huntington Valley, Pennsylvania, is from an aeronautical family. His father, now retired, is an aeronautical engineer and an avid modeler. Walter has been selected for the University Scholars Program and is at Penn State where he plans to major in mechanical engineering.
At Abington Senior High School, he graduated with a 3.5 GPA. On the National Honor Roll for three years out of four, he achieved an excellent scholastic record.
His aeromodeling activities included many first places in both regional and national events. His last Nats was in 1985, where he took four first place trophies as a junior contestant.
For further relaxation, Walter enjoys the piano, loves computers, and spent many off-school hours working at part-time jobs to boost his savings account prior to enrolling at Penn State. He is also a golfer, a bowler, and a competitive tennis player. On the ski slopes, he is highly skilled and is presently rated as between advanced and expert levels.
We are sure he has a bright future ahead and we are proud of him.
