Rosemary Hutchinson recently established a Memorial Scholarship Fund to pay tribute to her late husband, Tom, who was an avid Free Flight enthusiast. Tom spent many hundreds of hours in his lifetime giving a helping hand to beginners, especially young people. Rosemary thought it would be a fitting manner to commemorate his enthusiastic support of the educational values inherent in model aviation by making an annual grant from the fund to help university age students.
We are pleased to announce the name of the first recipient of the Tom Hutchinson award. She is Suzanne Kusik, of Huntington Beach, California. Suzanne is a keen free flighter and has been a contestant at many Nats. In 1983, she competed at Westover AFB and became a wellknown face to many AMA members due to a very fine photograph. This photograph was selected to be part of the Academy trade show exhibit. Again, in 1984, Suzanne was a contestant in Reno. A very skillful modeler with great patience and dedication, she was a pleasure to watch with her Peanut Scale aircraft.
The responsibility for selecting recipients for the Tom Hutchinson award has been given to the Academy Scholarship Committee. Mrs. Hutchinson has provided the total funding for the program. A check for $500 has been mailed to Miss Kusik. We congratulate her!
